Belly bulge

It's really scary to think that as we get older our body fat increases and it's distributed more in our abdomen than in our arms, legs, and hips. Another scary part is that the bulges that we see are not that harmful compared to the fat that we don't see and it's called visceral fat. This type of fat has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other health problems.

Visceral fat is hereditary. It's not caused by old age or lack of exercise. We can blame our accumulation of visceral fat to our genes. Women after menopause is also susceptible to gaining more fat in their abdomen.

Too much belly fat increases your risk of:

  • heart disease
  • breast cancer
  • diabetes
  • metabolic syndrome
  • gallbladder problems
  • high blood pressure
  • colorectal cancer

Regular exercise is one of the ways to fight the bulge. Having a healthy diet such as eating the daily recommended amount of fruits and vegetables will also help
