Espionage charges for 3 US hikers

On July 31 three US hikers were detained by the Iranian government on charges of illegally crossing the border from Iraqi Kurdistan to Iran. Today, a Palestinian prosecutor said that the hikers will be charged with espionage. The White House said that these hikers are innocent and should be released by the Iranian government.

The hikers have very little contact with their families. We all know that Iran is not our friend so any communication to the Iranian government is through Switzerland. A Swiss diplomat visited the hikers in Tehran on September 29 and October 29 for 40 minutes.

I hope that this situation will serve as a lesson to everyone who sets foot on a foreign land. I think that we should all be aware of the consequences when crossing borders. I hope that these hikers will be released soon to their families. I believe that they made an innocent mistake and should be absolved by humanitarian considerations.
