Jane Doe now has a name

It's amazing to know that after 55 years authorities were finally able to determine what happened to Dorothy Gay Howard. When Howard's younger sister provided her DNA sample to Boulder County Sheriff's Detective Steve Ainsworth, the lead investigator in the case, they're able to find out that Jane Doe, a murdered young woman in Colorado 55 years ago, and Howard's younger sister were related. This finding was able to give light to the case that Jane Doe and Dorothy Gay Howard are one and the same. Historian Silvia Pattem also get credits for encouraging Boulder County sheriff's officials to renew efforts to identify Jane Doe.

Ainsworth believes that it was serial killer Harvey Glatman, who was executed in 1959 in California, who killed Howard. Glatman confessed to killing three women and served time in a Colorado state prison for violent assaults on women, including one about a quarter of a mile from where Howard's body was found.

Justice has finally been served to Howard and her family.
