Every little thing we do makes an impact to our environment. Climate change is being tackled globally and although some countries like the U.S. rejected the 1997 Kyoto Protocol there are things we can do at home and outside that will prevent the Earth from getting warmer.
Greenhouse gases are the main culprit for climate changes scientists say. Greenhouse gases have both natural and human sources. Volcanic eruptions are considered natural resources while burning of fossil fuels and industrial processes are considered human sources.
So how can we help in protecting our environment from the greenhouse effect? We can conserve energy by turning off all appliances like TV and computers if they're not in use. We can also save energy by taking the bus, riding a bike, or walking. It's also important that we plant and conserve trees because they absorb carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas. We also need to recycle so we send less trash to the landfill.
Most products now are made to save energy. The less energy we use, the better. More and more households in the U.S. are using solar energy or "energy that comes from the sun". If you buy a car make sure it has a good mileage. Lesser gas, lesser pollution. Of course, carpooling is another energy saver. The lesser car on the roads the better it is for our environment. To help you identify appliances which save energy just look for the ENERGY STAR labels.
